MARGARET PITT PRINTMAKER
I am a printmaker working , at the moment, primarily in woodcut although I also make collagraphs, copperplate etchings and paint in oils.
My woodcuts use the reductive technique and are either one-offs or of a very limited edition of about six. The prints are abstract often using archeaological references which I interpret into bold shapes, textures and colours to give diversity. I like the viewer to engage with the work and achieve a personal dialogue with the subject matter.
These works should not be confused with so-called "limited edition prints" which are copies of an artwork produced, often as a painting, and exist in that form as a genuine work of art as opposed to a reproduction. The artist often has very little input other than possibly his/her signature on the reproduction.
I am happy to welcome visitors , by appointment, to my studio to see the techniques I employ in my work. I also run workshops in woodcut printing.
